Note: Until 1776 the boundaries of King George County and Stafford County were aligned between the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers. The Potomac River side of the Northern Neck was Stafford County while the Rappahannock River side was King George County. When looking for deeds and papers associated with southern Stafford County in the Colonial period, check the King George County Clerk's files. This would include Falmouth, Chatham, Ferry Farm, the Lower Farm, and all other Rappahannock plantation sites.
